Teatro Donizetti
The Teatro Donizetti, originally called Teatro Riccardi after its builder, was inaugurated in 1791 in Bergamo. This historic building, initially featuring a plastered façade and a small portico, surprised citizens with its size and for having been built in an era of temporary wooden theaters. After a fire in 1797, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1800. The hall, which retains the 1786 design, measures 360 m2 and has a capacity of 1686 seats, distributed between armchairs and boxes in three rows. In 1897, to celebrate the centenary of Gaetano Donizetti, the theater was renamed in honor of the famous composer from Bergamo and underwent major renovations. Further expansion works began in 1958 and the renovated theater resumed its activities in 1964.
